I have been riding for 12 years. I have been coached by Calum for the last 3 years. When we started working together I was already at quite a high standard having been coached for the previous 4 years. However, the difference in physical performance and results has been substantial.
I race in the Vet 40 category and have gone from finishing in the top 10 at regional races to regularly rocking the podium, a 6th place at the World Cycloross Champs and a 4th place at the British National Gravel Champs. Calum’s training is both varied and targeted, I really appreciated our video calls where he gives a full physiological explanation of what training we are doing and why.He is also cognisant of my work and family commitments and gets the very best out of me with what time I have available. I am still hitting all time PBs at 45. If you want to improve or achieve a specific goal then I cannot recommend him enough. He is terrific. David Spencer |

I turned to cycling after a major knee injury prevented me from doing much else. A pretty late starter to the sport, at the ripe old age of 31, getting to grips with training and racing was proving tricky so I got in touch with a Revolution Velo Coaching to put me on the right track. Although I was a little daunted about the initial chat, having never had a coach before, it was really relaxed and I felt like what I wanted to achieve on the bike was taken into consideration as were my concerns regarding my injury. I felt super confident in the objectives we had set and that I was going to be given a training plan to help me achieve them. Having a SMART goal with key milestones also meant that I was able to stay focused and motivated through the long winter months on the turbo! One of the things that really impressed me, was that as I got to know the team a bit better, my coach asked me about my menstrual cycle and if I had ever based my training around it. The answer, embarrassingly enough, was a no. I, just like many other women out there, had been using the same programmes designed for men thinking they would do the job for me too. How wrong I was! Roll on a few months and my training was already starting to show amazing results. I made sure I used the comments feature on Training Peaks so the coach could really understand how my workouts were going and adjustments and tweaks were made along the way. Not only has my training been optimised to my menstrual cycle but one of the other areas my coach has really helped me with is nutrition. With a focus on nutrition for recovery at different times of my cycle which is really benefitting me. I have now been with Revolution Velo Coaching for 2 seasons and can not wait to see the results of this winter’s training when I can get back racing on the road again! I highly recommend to all those looking to train for an event and especially for women. Charley Tysler |
Although I had maintained a relatively steady training schedule in previous years, I felt it lacked focus and my performance had stagnated. I therefore decided to seek some expert help from Revolution Velo Coaching. Working with Revolution Velo Coaching has really taken my cycling to the next level. After just five months of training, I have significantly increased my power output, finally managing a 300W 20-minute average power – a major goal of mine which translates to an increase of 19.5%!. Crucially, I have also reaped the benefits on the road, where my improvements have been across the board!
Calum at RVC has been great. He talked through my initial goals with me and devised a plan to work towards them which fits in nicely with my lifestyle. The plan is generally split between shorter sessions during the week and longer weekend rides, and we talked through a programme that now suits me perfectly. The training is challenging without being unmanageable and is refreshingly varied, which has prevented me getting bored (a problem I have had in the past). Calum provides in-depth feedback after every ride including tips on how to improve, praise where it has been earned and pick-me-ups and encouragement on days where I have struggled. We have also had regular catch-ups where we have analysed my data together, highlighted areas where I have shown improvement and identified weaknesses to work on in the next training phase. Calum has also shown great flexibility, adjusting my training plan to accommodate changes in my work schedule, holidays and short periods where I have just needed a short break. Highly recommended! I approached Revolution Velo Coaching in 2020 with the goal of completing a 200km audax event. While I've cycled for most of the last fifteen years, this was the first time I've made a focused effort to train for a particular goal. I found working with RVC very easy and great fun - I mainly completed sessions on my turbo with Zwift, with longer outdoor rides at the weekends.
TrainingPeaks was a convenient way to track my progress and also to keep in touch with my coach, Calum, who was full of encouragement throughout. He provided detailed notes and feedback, with enough science so that I could understand the purpose of different sessions. Workouts were easy to fit around my other life commitments, and Calum was quick to respond both to changing plans but also my changing fitness over time. Despite audax events being cancelled throughout most of this year due to Covid, I targeted a specific weekend and managed to complete the ride. I've been very happy training with RVC and will continue doing so as I go into next year! Jonny Baker-Brian |
I have really enjoyed working with Calum over the last couple of years. His preparation is very thorough and well explained, his feedback is clear and consistent and his support for me has been incredible. With his help I have already achieved so much more than I ever thought possible, and we haven’t finished yet!

I have been working with Calum for the last 14 months and have loved every minute of it. I am now enjoying my training more than ever and have made huge improvements. I am grateful to Calum’s diligence and knowledge but what really sets him apart is his commitment and interest in his athletes. I would recommend him to anyone.
We identified the Haute Route as my A event for the year and he generated a fantastic programme to prepare for it, even identifying routes/locations that would suit particular sessions. Ian McCaul |
I started training with Calum in January 2023 in preparation for the European Championships Middle Distance Aquabike. I have trained consistently for many years however Calum has had his work cut out re-educating me that not everything I do has to be at high intensity. I remember feeling that it was ‘normal’ for my body to hurt constantly and thought this was the price to compete at a higher level.
This is when Zone 2 training entered my life. At first I can’t say I liked it. I didn’t understand how I would race faster by riding so slowly. Only recently has it all started making sense to me, and although I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it, I had been letting my ego get the better of me as I didn’t like looking so slow. Nine months later I can tell you it does work. I now train in watts rather than mph, my ftp has far surpassed my goal for the season and I retained my top 10 age group place in the increasing strong field but most important of all my body no longer hurts, giving me increased confidence for the longevity of my sport. I am a 47 year old working mum of 2 and life just sometimes gets in the way. Calum is always very understanding of this and will always implement the necessary changes to my plan. Discussing female issues with a younger male has taken some getting used to but Calum has spent the time understanding the science behind how bodies differ through various life stages and puts you at ease when explaining. With Calum’s help, support and knowledge I am looking forward to building on the strong foundations we have now put in place, embracing the Zone 2 and smashing the VO2 in 2024. I know I am in good hands with Calum. Vic Harrison |
