This Project was born out of a desire to gain an understanding of the powerful role the menstrual cycle plays in female training.
Whilst coaching our female athletes it became abundantly clear that most training programmes have been designed for men. Very little research has been carried out solely on a female athlete base, and as a result the so-called ‘shrink and pink’ approach is used in most female training programmes. What do we mean by this? In essence, a coach or athlete will take a generic programme (designed with men in mind), make it a little less intense and then label it as a female training plan!
Here at Revolution Velo Coaching we want to be able to understand and harness the natural power of the menstrual cycle in order to optimise the training of our female athletes. To that end, we have set up a small project where we will be asking female volunteers, both trained and untrained, to undertake some workouts on our behalf. The data sets from these sessions will then be shared with us so we may gain a clearer understanding of how the menstrual cycle influences training and performance.
If you would like to hear more, or if you want to take part, then please follow the link below to Revolution Velo Coaching's XX Project closed Facebook group. In this group you will find our head coach, Calum O’Connor, explaining a bit more.
